New to Orienteering?
What is it? Orienteering is a challenging outdoor adventure sport that
exercises both the mind and the body. The aim is to navigate in sequence
between control points marked on an unique orienteering map and decide the best
route to complete the course in the quickest time. It does not matter how
old, young or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog the course and progress
at your own pace.
Orienteering can take place
anywhere, from remote forest and countryside to urban parks and school
playgrounds. The most challenging orienteering takes place in areas which
have demanding terrain and few paths.
How do you get involved? There are monthly local events in North Wales
through the Autumn and Winter and weekly evening events from May to July.
For information on the next event check out the events
page

What do you need? To start orienteering all you need is a sense of
adventure and a pair of trainers. It's a great sport for runners, joggers
and walkers who want to improve their navigation skills or for anyone who loves
the outdoors.
How do I find out more? Check out the British
Orienteering website for more details, or why not come along to an event and
discover for yourself.
How do I join the club? Visit the British
Orienteering website to join your local club
What is a POC, and where are they? A POC or Permanent
Orienteering Course is another way to get a flavour of orienteering when it
suits you. There are a number of permanent courses in parks and forests throughout
North Wales. Once you have a map of the desired POC you can choose which
control sites to visit in which order or you can follow the suggested
courses. Out in the forest you will find wooden posts with the
orienteering flag marked on and an individual control code. To find out
more about permanent courses in North Wales click here.

Welsh Champs Mug
Challenge
The challenge is to see how many
different places the Welsh Champs mugs can make it to!
Hilary is off to a flying start
presenting a mug to a slightly confused Patagonian earlier this year.

Get your mug out and about and
photograph it in the weirdest and remote places you can.
