Ward Junior Home Internationals - Newborough Forest - Sept 5/6 2009
Controllers Comments
It is a rare privilege to orienteer in the marvellous area of Newborough, especially so as the controller of a prestige event. Although the map is not new, it has stood the test of time, and the runnability information has only altered marginally since 2001. Conditions on a cool but dry weekend were ideal for excellent performances, which we got on both days.
The 2001 British Championship results were a good basis for our course lengths - even so they did not prepare us fully for the speed of this year's runners. We saw exciting finishes on both days, and most? runners clearly enjoyed themselves greatly.
For that I must thank Heather, and her helpers Fiach and Anwen, for planning testing courses in the best terrain. But the Chamberlains made that possible by organising a JHI weekend which was both efficient and informal. Congratulations to them all - it will be a hard act to follow
