Permanent Orienteering Courses

There are a number of permanent courses throughout North Wales, ranging from those designed for use with schools to those designed for the more experienced orienteer.

Beddgelert Forest
Car Park:   Forest Campsite
Directions:    SH578492.  The campsite is signed from the A4085 Caernarfon - Beddgelert road, approx 1km north of Beddgelert village
Map available: From the forest campsite office
Suitability: Suitable for experienced orienteers and family groups with supervised children

Car Park:   Behind Conwy Council Offices
Directions:    SH779779  Off A547 just north west of Conwy

Glynllifon Country Park

Car Park:   Glynllifon Country Park
Directions:    SH453554 Off A499 Caernarfon - Pwllheli road

Llyn Elsi

Car Park:   Numerous car parks in Betws-y-Coed
Directions:    SH794564.  Betws-y-Coed is on the A5 from Bangor.  The courses start from behind Cotswold Outdoors Shop in the centre of the village

Suitability: Suitable for experienced orienteers and family groups with supervised children

Nantgwrtheyrn

Car Park:   Follow signs for Nantgwrtheyrn from Llithfaen village down steep hill
Directions:    SH350448 Turn off the A499 onto the B4417 at Llanalhaearn.  On reaching Llithfaen turn right for Nantgwrtheyrn

Newborough Forest

Car Park:   Car park on left 1 mile past Newborough village
Directions:    SH413669 Follow A4080 through Newborough village towards Malltraeth, car park is on left after approx. 1 mile

Padarn Country Park

Car Park:   Follow signs for Country Park from Llanberis village
Directions:    SH586604.  Take the A4086 to Llanberis, follow the bypass around the village centre, take the left turning after the Electric Mountain visitor centre and follow signs for the country park

Park Eirias

Car Park:   Colwyn Bay Leisure Centre
Directions:    SH858783  Off A547 in Colwyn Bay

Parc-y-Mileniwm

Car Park:   Car park is on the A4085 a short distance from the junction with the A487
Directions:    SH611391 Follow A487 through Porthmadog into Penrhyndeudraeth, turn onto A4085 for Beddgelert

Welsh Champs Mug Challenge

The challenge is to see how many different places the Welsh Champs mugs can make it to!

Hilary is off to a flying start presenting a mug to a slightly confused Patagonian earlier this year.
